About laboratory
The A-1 Laboratoryfs research deals with Multi-function, Multi-lingual, Multi-media intellectual (MMM) systems using Machine Translation and Speech Recognition as the core technologies.
Dr. Fuji Ren is the head of A1-group and is internationally well known for his work in Super-Function based Machine Translation and in the fields of Natural Language Processing, and Knowledge Engineering. Assistant Professor, Dr. Shingo Kuriowa played an active role in the first speech recognition system for international phone calls in Japan and is currently active in the speech recognition field. Dr. Ren and Dr. Kuroiwa are guiding and teaching from foundations to final applications in wide area of research. Dr. Ren has been frequently invited to lecture on MMM research at other universities and international conferences, such as IEEE.
With the leadership of Dr. Ren MMM has been used in multilingual machine translation, information retrieval and summarization, automatic composition creation, e-Learning systems, knowledge acquisition, speech recognition and composition, affective computing, QA systems, multilingual synthesis service system, affective conversation systems, intelligent robots, facial expression recognition, financial information processing, word processing and a secretary systems, automatic program recognition, etc. A1-group is continuously working with other labs in and outside Japan in ambitious and cutting edge research and development.
